Start from the problem, not the model number

The Stage 4 is newer. That part is easy. The harder question is whether it solves something that is genuinely getting in your way: your keybed, your layering, your effects, your setlist, your synth work or your live control.

For some Stage 3 owners the Stage 4 is a brilliant upgrade. For others it is an expensive way to lose a workflow that already works. This checklist helps you work out which one you are.

Use the checklist to audit:

• Keybed feel and weight, including the move from an HP76
• Layers and independent effects, where the Stage 4 is strongest
• Song Mode, which the Stage 4 does not have
• Piano, organ and synth priorities
• External control and the programs you depend on
• Your own net cost and disruption, in your own numbers
